In application of article 9 of the Spanish civil code, your French marriage contract is naturally respected in Spain. Spanish law does not include universal community of property. Still, its civil consequences are respected. The surviving spouses receive the whole common estate. Only, taxation or rather the absence of taxation, in France, is not applicable in Spain. Half of the estate is taxed, as if it was an inheritance.
